The headline numbers

Where the difference comes from
- Property costs. Land and building costs along the Ganga are a fraction of urban Western commercial rents, and most Rishikesh schools own their premises outright.
- Local wage levels and the density of qualified resident teachers, which keeps instruction costs low without importing faculty.
- Residential bundling. Feeding and housing thirty students on site is dramatically cheaper per head than each of them arranging it individually.
- Volume. Rishikesh runs hundreds of courses a year, and competition between schools compresses margins.
What is not included
The advertised fee is rarely the final number. Budget separately for international flights (usually the single largest line item), an Indian e-visa, travel and medical insurance, the transfer from Delhi or Dehradun, Yoga Alliance registration once you graduate, books and props, laundry, and spending money for rest days. A realistic all-in figure for a student flying from Europe or North America sits around USD 2,200 to USD 3,200 — still comfortably below a Western programme.
Reading a price that looks too low
Courses advertised well under USD 900 deserve scrutiny rather than dismissal. Ask how many students share a training hall, how many share a bedroom, how many of the listed teachers actually teach your batch, whether the school is Yoga Alliance registered under its own name, and what the refund policy is in writing.
