In Kerala, rice is always accompanied by a simple curry for lunch. It will be either coconut curry or coconut yoghurt curry (Pulissery sauce).

This is one of the simplest curries. My grandma serves this curry with Rice & dried tuna chammanthi, it is such a simple lunch, but comforting. While this curry is often served in my father’s family with spicy fish curry & rice, the sharpness of the fish curry is compensated for by the coconut curry.

There are some ways to make this curry. My grandma adds fennel seeds, it gives a different taste and taste.

If you share my large -scale recipe with you, this has to be poured over hot rice, it tastes better with dried shrimp or tuna chammanthi & cucumber.

Easy Coconut Curry – Thengachar, Ozhichu Curry Recipe

  • Coconut, grated 1½ cups
  • Green chilis- 1 or 2
  • Fresh ginger-2-inch disc
  • Fennel seeds- 1 teaspoon
  • Curcum powder- ¼ TL
  • Water ½ cup or enough to make a smooth paste
  • Coconut oil 1½ tablespoons
  • Mustard seeds- 1 TL
  • Dried red chillies, halved- 2
  • Curry leaf 1 branch
  • Water ¼ cup
  • Salt 1 TL
  1. To a mixer glass, the above ingredients “for grinding” and add to a smooth paste to grind.
  2. Place a clay pupor or a non-stick pan over medium heat.
  3. Add oil when the oil gets hot, add mustard seeds, stutter.
  4. If you add dried red chillies and curry leaves, fry for a few seconds.
  5. Sink the flame and pour the ground coconut into the pan.
  6. Rinse the mixer with ¼ cup of water and put the water into the pan.
  7. Don’t make this curry too watery.
  8. Add salt and combine well.
  9. Let the coconut curry boil over medium heat for a few minutes, do not let the curry come to a boil.
  10. When the curry begins to cook, take the pan out of the heat and keep it covered.
  11. This coconut curry together with rice & dried shrimp chammanthi tastes delicious.
  12. Also fits very well with spicy fish curry and rice, pour the fish curry and coconut curry over the rice, combine it well and enjoy it.
